Entrance

Guests pull into a long driveway and drive past the golf course to find the entrance of Hacienda del Mar. The project started in 1995 and is part of a large 1,800-acre golf Resort community, which also includes the Sheraton next door. It is easy to get confused, since this property and the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar Golf & Spa Resort share similar names and even specific amenities, but the two resorts operate separately. 

Units

This low-rise residential Resort has 234 units in 20 three-story buildings. Most come with elevators, but not all. Sizes include studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites with views of the ocean, grounds, and/or the golf course. Units have hacienda-style décor with Spanish tiling, white and blue accents, traditional dark wood furnishings, and fully equipped kitchenettes (in the studio Junior Suites) or kitchens.

Location

Hacienda del Mar is located slightly away from the main action in Cabo San Lucas, which is excellent for families looking for a larger Resort environment with more quiet. The Resort is part of a vast development called Cabo del Sol, and it can be reached via the Transpeninsular Highway, which connects San Jose del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas. Guests arrive at Los Cabos International Airport, about 35 minutes away, and either take a taxi or rent a car to get to the property.

For those who choose the latter, free parking is available only near the reception building, which can be a hike from the individual buildings (guests should use porter service for luggage). Taxi from the hotel into town to experience nightlife, but most guests tend to stick to the Resort, aside from a trip to Costco to fill up on groceries. There are several renowned golf courses in the complex, and excursions like whale watching and diving often include transportation.

• Best Time to Visit: Anytime is a great time to visit Cabo. Summer time, right after Thanksgiving and before Christmas, is the best time for small crowds and lower-priced rooms. December through May is a great time for whale watching. January through March is a great time to escape the cold winters. • Currency: The official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN), but U.S. dollars are widely accepted and preferred by locals.
