7 Reasons to Spend Christmas in Mexico
An Unforgettable Christmas Vacation

So you’re looking for your next getaway packed with sun, sand, and a fruity drink—basically, the holy trinity of a perfect vacation? If you’re looking to spend Christmas in Mexico this year, Vacation Travel Exclusives has the scoop to get you there faster, cheaper, and without hassle.
Christmas in Mexico is more than just a vacation–it’s an escape to paradise. While Mexico is a captivating destination year-round, experiencing the Christmas culture of another country provides perspective, understanding, and unforgettable memories. We think Mexico is even more enchanting when the sparkling lights come out, presents are shared, and people hold their loved ones just a bit tighter.

Escape to the Shores of Mexico
Christmas time is the perfect occasion to soak in the sun, drink a Ponche Navideño (Christmas punch) or two, and spend time with loved ones. We’re covering why you should spend Christmas in Mexico and why the holly jolly season is best spent on the beach! Join us as we celebrate all that there is to do in Mexico during the winter season and let’s put your PTO to good use!
Experience Perfect Weather
We have to start with the most obvious reason to spend Christmas in Mexico—the inviting, warm weather. Temperatures here can reach up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit in December, with very little rainfall on average. With a slight breeze at night, Mexico is an unmatched spot for spending the day outdoors, day or night.
Book a Family Vacation or Something Romantic
In need of a family getaway with the kids? Maybe your children are grown and you want to spend your holiday with that special someone. Either way, the resorts in Mexico can accommodate any vacation and travel need. Vacation Travel Exclusives has premier owner resorts in Cancun, Cabo, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta that are perfect for your Christmas getaway. We have several Christmas dates confirmed and ready to book here.
Enjoy Local Christmas Festivals
Because the overwhelming majority of Mexican residents are Catholic, Christmas is a huge celebration here! Here are some of the most popular Christmas festivals in Mexico that we highly recommend attending.
Dia de la Virgen de Guadeluope (Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe)
Locals will gather on December 12th to celebrate the patron Saint of Mexico, Our Lady of Guadalupe. This title is given to a specific apparition of the Virgin Mary that appeared to a man named Juan Diego in 1531.
Las Posadas (The Inns)
One of the biggest and main festivals in Mexico is celebrated during Christmas. Las Posadas, or “Pasadas,” is a nine-day celebration from December 16-24, leading up to Christmas Day. Las Posadas celebrates Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to stay before the birth of Christ. With the nine days representing Mary’s pregnancy, you can experience a true celebration of the birth of Christ.
Los Tres Reyes Magos (The Three Wise Men)
During this time, families gather around to celebrate the men who brought gifts to Jesus. Members eat a sweet cake called Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings bread) that contains a hidden baby Jesus figurine. The family member who finds the baby in their bed is considered blessed with good luck and must host a tamales party the following month.

Try Festive Food & Drinks
Complement your beach getaway with the perfect drink! While tequila, beer, and cocktails are popular throughout the year, unique holiday drinks take center stage during Christmas:
- Ponche Navideño: A favorite amongst the locals. This holiday drink essentially is a spiked Christmas punch, but with a hidden feature: tejecotes. This small, yellow Mexican fruit grows on hawthorn trees and presents a fine drinking experience.
 - Rompope: Another popular festival drink made from egg yolks, milk, vanilla, and, of course, rum. It is a must-try while you vacation down here.
 - Mexican hot chocolate: Often served with Rosca de Reyes, this classic drink is richer than its American counterpart.

Mexico boasts a rich and diverse culinary scene, combining traditional Mexican flavors with fresh seafood and international influences. There is truly something for everyone’s taste buds. Let’s take a closer look:
- Fresh Seafood: From Baja-style fish tacos to fresh ceviche, Mexico is renowned for its delicious seafood. Situated right on the coast, guests can taste the fine lobsters and shrimp, prepared and seasoned locally.
 - Traditional Dishes: Tamales, pozole, and other traditional dishes are present in Mexico, showing off the delicious traditions of the Hispanic and Latino cultures.
 - Baja-Med Cuisine: A fusion of Baja California and the Mediterranean, this style emphasizes fresh, locally sourced ingredients such as vegetables, seafood, and grilled octopus.

Discover Nightlife & Beachfront Bars
Check out the vibrant nightlife of Mexico during your stay there. From lively dance clubs to relaxed beach bars, there is a bit of everything for you and your friends. From three-story clubs like El Squid Roe to more modern decor at Mandala Club in Cabo, Mexico's nightclubs are worth visiting.
If you come to Cabo, Mexico, you can also stop by the Cabo Wabo Cantina to see live rock music combined with a lively bar scene. If you’re more into beachfront bars, Mexico has a ton of scenic spots to sip a fruity cocktail and get your toes wet, like Coco's Beach Club Cancún situated right on the beach.
Find Activities Galore
There are a variety of activities that you and your family can participate in during Christmas in Cabo, Cancun, Puerto Vallaras or other scenic spots in Mexico. Here are some of the highlights that you can experience during your stay:
- Snorkeling & Scuba Diving: Explore scenic areas such as Santa Maria Bay in Cabo, Isla Mujeres in Cancun, or Merietas Island in Puerto Vallaras. Dive deep into the enchanting Mexican waters and discover the underwater life in popular places such as Pulmo National Marine Park in Cabo.
 - ATV tours & Ziplining: Go through the desert terrain, over the beaches, and around the canyons on these high-flying vehicles. Fly through Wild Canyon Adventures in Cabo and see a panoramic view of the beautiful local landscapes.
 - Whale Watching: December - April is the premier time for whale watching in Mexico. Whales during this time are heading south from the Arctic towards the warmer waters located near Mexico—don’t forget your camera!

Sometimes the best vacation is spent doing nothing. Feel free to put your phone on silent mode and lie on the beach all day with a good book and drink—It’s your vacation after all!

Relax and Rejuvenate
Relaxation is a critically underrated part of a person’s mental and physical health and we believe traveling and having new adventures fill your soul. Enjoy a local spa, try some yoga, learn to surf, play in the ocean, embrace a local food tour, and watch the sunset on the beach—the choice is yours.

FAQs
- How much does it cost to stay in Mexico?

While room rates vary, any luxury Resort will be on the more expensive side, generally compared to a standard hotel. However, to determine rates, you also need to consider the season, room type, the Resort, upgrades, and booking source. We here at VTE have most of the options you're looking for, all at OWNER RATES.

How to Save Money on Traveling
Most visit resorts in Mexico because they can be cheaper than those in other tropical destinations, but rates can fluctuate throughout the year.
While booking through online travel agencies (OTAs) and the hotel can be convenient, the rates are usually pricier, and you’re treated like just a number. Choices like Booking.com, Expedia, Airbnb, Kayak, or others typically include significant fees, steeper base prices, and only include basic amenities. Also, customer service can be hit-or-miss and time-consuming.
Booking a Resort with us, as an Owner's Guest, is a game-changer for savvy travelers, unlocking discounts, receiving Owner amenities, and improving their vacation experience by cutting out the middleman. You can experience a vacation that feels luxurious and rewarding, without the financial burden that often comes with booking through traditional channels.
